With 30 years related experience in the UK and overseas insurance and heavy civil engineering industry, Richard as a qualified Chartered Engineer and Chartered Loss Adjuster has accumulated a wealth of experience in Loss Control, construction projects and ‘Forensic Engineering’. Founding principal of Expert Services with overall responsibility for engineering and loss adjusting ‘cases of concern’. Expert CPR reports for litigation and Public Inquiries for defendants and claimants.

1993 - 1999 Ellis & Buckle Chartered Loss Adjusters
East London branch engineer tasked with project managing subsidence claims, and the investigation of other building related losses. In 1996 transferred to E&B’s Construction Services Unit (formerly their Subsidence Support Unit) to provide second opinions on building related damage, case referrals (internal and external), manage high net worth or VIP claims and provide in-house training including the publication of several ‘Technical Bulletins’.

1990 - 1993 Thomas Howell Group
Engineer/Adjuster specialising in civil engineering and building related losses. Extensive experience of subsidence, fire, impact and Contractors All Risks claims. Oversees claims experience included Storm, Public Liability, Product Liability, CAR and Professional Indemnity claims whilst either on secondment in the Far East or in the Bahamas in the wake of Hurricane Andrew.

Resident engineer and structural design of retail/business park developments including a ‘brown field’ methane site exacerbated by tidal ground water. ICE/JCT contracts.

1986 - 1989 Freeman Fox International Consulting Engineers 2
Assistant resident and planning engineer on the Jahra-Ghazili Expressway (Kuwait) – a 6 lane motorway incorporating an elevated post tensioned segmental concrete viaduct, an underpass held in situ with 700+ ground anchors, over bridges with mainly driven concrete foundations and extensive drainage/service accommodation works requiring large temporary works e.g. Berlin walls, deep well dewatering, well points and cut and cover tunnels. FIDIC contract.

1984 to 1986 Brian Colquhoun & Partners Consulting Engineers
Assistant resident engineer M25 (A6-A1(M)). Demolition and construction of bridges (various constructions), large earthworks, surface water drainage including river outlets, large augured soakaways, balancing ponds, culverts, thrust boring, pipe jacking, well points, accommodation works including relocation of fibre optic cables and DBM/asphalt road construction with subbase and capping layer mainly along the alignment of the pre-existing A6 thus requiring extensive traffic management/the construction of temporary diversions. Forensic investigation of a large temporary earthworks failure (landslip) onto the north bound A1(M) carriageway. ICE contract.

Resident/diving engineer based in Oman for the construction of a concrete jetty/dolphin supported via steel piles set into predrilled sockets in Basalt, with cathodic protection and complimentary RORO causeway with locally sourced rock armour (explosives used in quarry). FIDIC contract.

1983 to 1984 Ove Arup Consulting Engineers
Assistant resident engineer in Benghazi, Libya overseeing and designing roads, drainage, services, soakaways, heliport, and general infrastructure. FIDIC contract.

1981 to 1983 Tarmac National Construction
Site engineer mainly responsible for the construction of ‘green field’ motorways (some refurbishment of existing under traffic management). Various over bridges including precast, composite insitu and voided insitu bridge decks, (guided steel or elastomeric bearings), large insitu reinforced culverts, sheet piling, river diversion, earthworks and ‘The Holmsdale’ cut and cover tunnel. (Diaphragm walls in Bentonite slurry, precast deck and deep drainage sump all constructed in a narrow corridor between existing properties). ICE form of contract.

1978 to 1981 London Borough of Redbridge
Design engineer for Ilford Town centre redevelopment, road construction, drainage works, car parks and maintenance including balancing lakes. CCTV surveys of foul and surface water sewers including subterranean discharge monitoring weir.
